Juz’ 27 – An Appeal to Hardened Hearts

Today’s Juz’ covers Al-Dhariyat [51]:31 to Al-Hadid [57]:29.
The themes discussed in these ayat include (1) Muhammad’s (pbuh) response to doubters; (2) a warning to idolaters; (3) the consequences of rejecting God’s warnings; (4) an invitation to accept God’s blessings; and (5) an appeal to stay on the righteous path.

Ramadan Mubarak.

The selected aya for the day challenges believers to stay attuned to God’s voice.

“Is it not time for believers to humble their hearts to the remembrance of God and the Truth that has been revealed, and not to be like those who received the Scripture before them, whose time was extended but whose hearts hardened and many of them were lawbreakers?” (Al-Hadid [57]:16)

Every believer probably wishes that his or her desires and actions would always reflect the Divine ideal. However, the opposite is true. Satan is doing everything in his power to distract Godly believers and craftily devises methods to harden their hearts to the voice of Righteousness. All too often, believers slip into a state of complacency and compromise, and have become accustomed to tuning out God’s voice when He speaks to them about their treasured sins.

Knowing that consistent refusal to heed His warnings will lead to eternal damnation, the God of grace continues to encourage believers with the hope that they will submit to His law of love. The biblical passage for today urgently pleads for believers to be serious about their faith and warns them about the consequences of hardening our hearts to God’s pleadings.

Listen:

“Today, if you will hear His voice:‘Do not harden your hearts, as in the rebellion,as in the day of trial in the wilderness, when your fathers tested Me; they tried Me, though they saw My work. For forty years I was grieved with that generation, and said, ‘It is a people who go astray in their hearts, And they do not know My ways.’So I swore in My wrath, ‘They shall not enter My rest.’” (Psalm 95:7b-11)

Prayer:

In the name of God the Merciful the Compassionate, I confess that the spirit of rebellion oft times hardens my heart to receiving Your Word. Forgive me for not trusting You as I should and empower me with Your Grace as I choose to walk the path of righteousness. In Your Holy Name I pray. Amen.
